Who is God?
If we look at Gods character, we can see that He has certain unique aspects that He doesn't share with any other being:
God is love.
This means that God loves us and wants only the very best for us. God loves us so much that He gave us His Son to die for us, so we could become His children. "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:13)
God is eternal.
This means that God has always been there. There has never been a time that God didn't exist. Everything in the universe has had a beginning, but God himself never had a beginning. He wasn't created or brought about (caused) by anybody or anything else. God has no beginning and neither does He have an end! The Bible says: "…from everlasting to everlasting you are God." (Psalm 90: 2)
God is personal
God isn't just an object or a force. He thinks, feels, desires and acts like a person.
God is omniscient (all-knowing).
This means that God knows all things. There is nothing in all of the universe that isn't known by God.He knows all that happens. He knows all we have ever said or done. He even knows our thoughts. The Bible says: "Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account." (Hebrews 4:13)
God is holy.
This means that God is without sin. He is completely pure and just. The Bible sometimes refers to sin as 'darkness'. The Bible says about God: "God is light and in Him there is no darkness at all." (1 John 1:5) Because God is holy, He hates sin and loves righteousness. He can't stand sin for one moment. The Bible says: "Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; You cannot tolerate wrong." (Habakkuk 1:13)
God is omnipotent (almighty).
This means that God can do everything He so wishes to do. His power is unlimited. He is the Almighty God. The Bible says about Him: "... He does as He pleaseswith the powers of heaven and the peoples of the earth. No one can hold back His hand or say to Him: 'What have you done?'” (Daniel 4:35). While there are no limits to God's power, there are certain things God will never do. God won't do any wrong thing. Everything He does always agrees with His holy nature. Look at what the Bible says: "The Lord is righteous in all His ways, and loving toward all He has made." (Psalm 145:17)
God is faithful.
This means that God always keeps His word. He cannot lie. What God has promised, He will certainly do. The Bible says: "God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a Son of Man, that He should change His mind. Does He speak and then not act? Does He promise and not fulfill?" (Numbers 23:19)
God is righteous.
This means that He always does what is right. Because God is holy and righteous He has to punish sin, He cannot turn a blind eye. God never punishes us for sins we haven't committed, but He won't overlook any sin. The Bible acknowledges: "He will judge the world in righteousness; he will govern the people with justice." (Psalm 9:8)
God is unchanging.
This means that God is always the same. He never changes. He is always:
He says about Himself: "I, the Lord, do not change." (Malachi 3:6)
God is one.
There is only one true God.
